This week’s recipe comes from Oorah TorahMates coordinator Mrs. Tzippy Sommers. For the uninitiated, cholent is a stew-like dish customarily served at the Shabbos day meal, put up to cook before Shabbos begins. Cholent is an old Jewish tradition (its Sephardic counterpart is called chamin). Read more about the roots of cholent here. This kugel is an excellent, easy addition to any cholent.

Ingredients:

1 potato
1 onion
1 carrot
1 celery
1 cup flour
1/2 cup oil
1 tsp. paprika
1 tsp. salt
1/4 tsp. black pepper

Grate the vegetables. Add the rest of the ingredients and mix well. Form into a log and wrap in foil. Put directly on top of cholent to cook.
