Jewish Music Part 3
Part 1: What is Jewish Song?
Part 2: Speaking of Choirs…
Part 4: Our Very Own
Though children have a special charm, they are far from the only popular Jewish music stars.
- Benny Friedman is an energetic and upbeat music sensation. He produced many popular songs and music videos, which have exploded on the Jewish music scene, and beyond.
Two of his most popular music videos include:
2. Baruch Levine has a golden voice, and is a classic in his own right. He composes his own songs, too.
3. Joey Newcomb is loveable and fun, with a unique blend of humorous candidness meeting genuine soul. His trademark “Thank You Hashem” has become a classic.
But he hasn’t stopped there! Bnei hamelech is another gem, along with many more.
4. And let’s not forget the rock star of contemporary Jewish/Chasidic/Sefardic/Yeshivish music, the one and only Yaakov Shwekey!
Four very popular music videos of his are:
5. Another wildly popular singer is Shmueli Unger.
His “Mach a Brocha” (recite a blessing) was a big hit:
Special mention: The Eighth Day brothers! Here is one of their many big hits:
6. Mordechai Ben David has been known for decades as “the king of Jewish music”.
Though his heyday may have been before the era of YouTube, here are some beautiful pieces of his available there.
And this final treat:
Your heart will flutter as you watch this reenactment of the song of the Levites. Preformed on the steps leading up to the actual Temple Mount, they are meters away from where the real song of Leviim took place, all those years ago.
As the camera pans, the Old City of Jerusalem and the Mount of Olives become visible too. Get swept up in the ecstasy, and feel the budding hope, that before long, it will be for real.
